Charlotte Mae (Hanger) Barnes, 86, of Waynesboro passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Royal Care of Staunton.

Born November 27, 1930 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Edith (Estes) Hanger.

Charlotte was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren. In early years, she served as the church treasure and sang in the choir. For many years she worked in the cafeteria at Kate Collins Middle School. She was a member of the Dooms Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Charlotte enjoyed...

Charlotte Mae (Hanger) Barnes, 86, of Waynesboro passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Royal Care of Staunton.

Born November 27, 1930 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Edith (Estes) Hanger.

Charlotte was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren. In early years, she served as the church treasure and sang in the choir. For many years she worked in the cafeteria at Kate Collins Middle School. She was a member of the Dooms Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Charlotte enjoyed singing at events, crocheting, knitting, gardening and spending time with her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Barnes; sisters, Vioda Jennings, Violet Meek and Josephine McCauley.
Charlotte is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Rev. Dee Flory and Pastor Ken Dolan officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Major, David Weeks, Butch Thompson, Josh Major, Richard Ryder and Larry Weeks.
